10 Dreams Players Fantasize About
You might think that all gamers play the same games, but you’d be wrong. There are as many genres of games as there are genres of books, and just as many subgenres within those genres. While MMORPGs and FPSs have their devoted fans, there’s also players who enjoy role-playing games, first-person narrative adventures, visual novels, card games, strategy games and more.
1) Being the best player in the world
I've been playing video games since I was five years old. I started off with Mario and Duck Hunt, but then the GameCube came out and my dad bought it for me. That was the first console I ever had. Ever since then, all I wanted to do was be the best player in the world.
2) Winning a championship
Everyone dreams about winning a championship. They imagine the excitement of being in the locker room, celebrating on the court with teammates, and looking up at a banner that says 2016 NBA Champions. The thrill of victory is one of life's most exhilarating experiences. There's nothing like it!
It's hard to describe what it feels like to finally reach your goal after years of hard work and perseverance. It's indescribable. But I'll try my best to explain it in words: there is an overwhelming sense of relief and joy that floods over you as soon as you see confetti falling from the sky and people rushing towards you to celebrate with you because they know how much this means to you--a feeling so powerful, it can't be put into words.
3) Breaking a records
In basketball, a player can't just break one record for a season. They have to break many in order to be considered the best of all time. In fact, the top seven players on this list each broke at least three records during their career: Michael Jordan (13), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (6), Wilt Chamberlain (5) Larry Bird (4), LeBron James (3), Oscar Robertson (3) and Shaquille O'Neal (2).
4) Having their own signature move
Most players can't wait to have their own signature move. A signature move is a special move in the game that only you can use and it's different from everyone else's. This would be the player's trademark, their unique identifier in the game. When people see your character performing your signature move, they'll know who you are right away. They'll know they're playing against you and they'll know how to defend against it. And that just feels amazing because then people will start noticing you as an individual player rather than just another opponent or faceless person on the screen with no identity or personality at all. Another reason why players want a signature move is because they feel like they've truly accomplished something in the game when they finally get one.
5) Becoming an All-Star
Although I know the chances are slim, I can't help but think about what it would feel like to be an All-Star. The feeling of jumping off a cliff and having the wind rush through your hair as you soar into the sky. The feeling of being on top of the world. The feeling of knowing you're one step closer to your dream.
6) Getting a shoe deal
Getting a shoe deal is one of the things people fantasized about when they are young. Back in the day, there was only one shoe company: Nike. When you got a shoe deal, it meant you made it. You were somebody; part of the culture. A lot has changed since then, and now players could merely fantasize about getting a shoe deal as more brands enter the market. However, there are still new opportunities for players to have their own signature sneaker line that would be exclusive to them and not share with anyone else--kind of like what Kobe Bryant has done with his Nike Kobe 11s Mamba Mentality kicks from Adidas.
7) Getting drafted by their favorite team
I've always been a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. The black and gold are in my blood, so to speak. Although I could never play football because of my size (I'm short!), I've always dreamed about getting drafted by the team that I loved since I was a kid. In my dream, the Steelers are playing against the Cleveland Browns and it's third down with five yards to go for a first down. The ball is snapped and Ben Roethlisberger throws me an easy pass for what should be an easy first down. But as soon as the ball gets near me, it hits one of those pesky little brown posts that you see on every field in America and bounces away from me. Game over. My fantasy is ruined!
8) Hitting a game-winning shot
In most sports, a game-winning shot is one of the most exciting moments that happens during a game. I can't tell you how many times I've been in the stands watching my favorite team with the game tied and they've delivered a clutch three to take the lead. The crowd goes wild, and if it's not their stadium, opposing fans will start to boo as we celebrate our victory. It's something that players fantasize about for years before finally getting that opportunity.
9) Dunking on somebody
Everybody fantasizes about dunking on somebody at some point. For me, it's always been my dad. It doesn't matter that he's retired from basketball and is a coach now. I still think about that time when he was a senior in high school and I was a freshman in elementary school, and I followed him up the court for the whole game. He was so good, it felt like there was nothing anyone could do to stop him. But then, with five seconds left in the game and his team down by two points, he got caught on a double team and I stepped up to steal the ball from him - just like he taught me! The crowd went crazy but as soon as they realized what happened they booed me because I was on the other team.
10) Being in a commercial
You might be surprised to know that athletes often fantasize about being in a commercial. Sure, it sounds like a silly dream, but it turns out there are some pretty logical reasons for it. Commercials can make you more recognizable to the public and put a face to the name. Plus, you'll get paid!
